Block Party!
So, last weekend, I went over to Romina and Elaina's Bed-Stuy appartment for dinner. Turns out, the street that they live on (which happens to be the same street that Dave Chapelle's Block Party was filmed on) was having a block party.
Now, let me tell you. Where I come from, block parties usually end at 9pm and basically consist of small children playing tag and old people sitting out on their lawn chairs. So it kind of came as a surprise to me when I saw that when people here say block party, they mean BLOCK PARTY. The block was filled with people and every twenty feet or so, there was a different speaker system set up that was blasting music so loud that it was loud enough to dance to from Romina and Elaina's fourth-floor apartment.
After dinner and after more people came and got sufficiently liquored up, we decided to move our little dance party outside and go socialize with the neighbors. It was basically the most fun I've ever had EVER. About four or five of us came down and we stood out like a bunch of goth kids in a J. Crew. We were seriously the only white people for what must have been a one-mile radius, and here we were, getting our boogies on all up and down the block. After a while, a few of the neighborhood kids starting following us around and cheering on our little dance-line as we made our way around the street to see what else was going on. After the music started to die down a little bit when it got late, we busted out the iPods and took the party inside.
I don't have a whole lot of photographs from the block party itself, but I have quite a few taken inside of the apartment and a little bit taken outside.
