Pink Power

Yesterday, Ana and Kat went to the Amvets thrift store to go bargain clothing shopping. When I was younger, I was absolutely mortified every time my mother dragged me out to the thrift store, equating it to a slightly better version of Good Will or the city mission. Now, however, it seems like it's the place to be.

Every time my sister and her friends declare that they're off to Amvets, it isn't said with the disgruntled groan of an "I-Only-Shop-At-Gap-Kids" child, but with the spirited tone of one that is about to go to Disney World. For them, it is not a place that smells like old basement and frequented by irritatingly thrifty senior citizens, but a gold-mine of hidden treasure.

I suppose I am not blessed with the keen eye for "thrift store finds" because every time I go to the thrift store, I often leave with little more than a headache. It is for this reason that I am always shocked when Ana and her friends come back home with heaps of incredibly cool clothes, as they did yesterday.

I watched in complete awe as they took item after item of gloriously tacky vintage clothing from their bags. Even more so when my sister announced that the total sum of all of her purchases amounted to less than thirteen dollars. After seeing all of the great bargain buys that they practically stole from Amvets, I decided immediately that they needed to be immortalized in a photoshoot.

great trashy setting! i especially like the pic of your sis climbing into the garbage can :-) (what btw would be a good metaphor for my feelings towards wearing used clothes...)
