Time to unclog
It's not that I don't have things to talk about. I have plenty to talk about. That's not the reason that I haven't updated this site in more than a week. When I went to Europe when I was thirteen, I had to give up practicing piano for a month. When I came back, I had basically forgotten how to play piano and I really didn't feel like learning how to again. I just stopped practicing and got really lazy about it and eventually, I was just like, "eff this" and I quit. It's kind of like that. Except I actually enjoy updating this site. It's just gone out of habit for me, maybe. I know that as soon as I get this entry up and online, the words will start falling out again. I just need a little unclogging post.
I just got back from New York City. Kind of. Like two or three days ago. Mary, Shannon, and I took the train down there for a week to hang out with Russell at his apartment. We didn't really do that much, unless you call walking aimlessly around Manhattan and eating an unhealthy amount of Tasti-D-Lite doing something. I sort of liked it that way, though. It felt less touristy. I'm not going to say that I know my way around the city yet, but I'm getting there. We had a lot of stuff planned for New York.... like a podcast, a photo shoot, and an Easter breakfast, but none of that stuff really happened. So, if you want to see a slideshow of us doing stuff but really not doing anything all that significant, click here.
The trains to and from New York were pretty terrible. I don't think I hated it as much as Mary and Shannon did, but it was still considerably unpleasant. Wasn't there a time when we took pride in our well-oiled, perfectly-timed train system? What ever happened to that? It's not like I take the train that often, but when I do, I'd prefer if the train didn't take one-hour stops in Albany and have bathrooms that smell a thousand times worse than rotting human carcasses. That's all I ask.
As much as I enjoyed hanging out with Russell, etc, I was really psyched to finally get back home. Sharing a bedroom with four other people (Tom came a few days later) and having to use the toilet with the tiny, tiny hole for an entire week got a little bit tiring. The train ride home was almost excruciatingly long. I listened to two two-hour long podcasts and watched an episode of Desperate Housewives on iTunes and I still ran out of stuff to do. I don't think getting home to my own bed ever felt so good.
One of the reasons (of many) that I am totally excited and flipping out about moving to New York this fall is the shopping. There is no H&M in Buffalo and H&M doesn't have a website you can buy stuff on, so my trips to New York are kind of mini Hajj(es?) for me in which H&M is my Mecca. And American Apparel is pretty awesome, too. On our last day in New York, I even made it to the fashion version of Nirvana: the Prada store. But I'm saving that for another post.

If you think the train ride to NYC is bad, try a transcontinental trip. YOU would need to be sedated. Still worth the experience. I would do it again.
Irrelevant to the post, but what's the difference between the main weblog posts and the notebook?
